Building A Local Economy is a community resource center in South Royalton, Vermont, that actively supports the emergence of a resilient, engaged and vibrant local culture. By focusing on appropriate scale, valuing the commons, building bonds of authentic connection, and facilitating creative collaboration, we strive to celebrate and uplift our community’s capacity to meet the challenges of our times.
White River Time Exchange
As an outcome of a Vermont Council for Rural Development’s visioning process, a BALE-led group has gathered to launch a “time bank” or time exchange as another powerful way to leverage local capacity outside of the U.S. dollar economy while strengthening the power of local business and shared community offerings (oh yes, it also breaks down barriers among class differences and equalizes the value of different kinds of work).
The Time Exchange launched in mid-March 2021 and is already approaching 100 members who offer up their skills through the website and look for -- or request -- skills or activities that they might need to help them. It's an ultimate Sahring Economy tool that builds community.
